"ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT ?" Charles Hart - 1927
Original Version - 1927
Music : Lou Handman
Lyrics : Roy Turk
Tonight I'm down hearted
For though we have parted
I love you
And I always will
And while I'm so lonely
I'm writing you only
To see if you care for me still
Are you lonesome tonight
Do you miss me tonight
Are you sorry we drifted apart
Does your memory stray
To a bright summer day
When I kissed you
And called you sweetheart
Do the chair in your parlor
Seem empty and bare
Do you gaze at your door step
And picture me there
Is your heart filled with pain
Shall I come back again
Tell me, dear
Are you lonesome tonight
I hold with affection
A fond recollection
A romance of days now gone by
And often I wonder
If I made a blunder
By letting you bid me goodbye
Do the chairs in your parlor
Seem empty and bare
Do you gaze at your doorstep
And picture me there
Is your heart filled with pain
Shall I come back again
Tell me, dear
Are you lonesome tonight
ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT? Covers Vaughn De Leath 1894 - 1943
STANLEY KIRKBY (1878 - 1949) was a British music hall singer at the beginning of the twentieth century. He was particularly well known for a series of songs he sang during the First World War, such as "Boys Of The Dardanelles", a patriotic song, "Tell My Daddy To Come Home Again", a sentimental treatment of how hard it was for children to be parted from their soldier fathers, and in 1910 he covered "The Galloping Major" - the original version of which had been performed by George Henry Bastow in 1906.

VERSE 1
Are you lonesome tonight?
Do you miss me I say?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memories cling to that bright summer day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?
Like the rose? on the vine I am clinging to you
As I did when we drifted apart
I am wishing you back to that little shack
Where I kissed you and called you sweetheart
VERSE 2
Does the chair in your parlor seem empty and bare?
Do you miss me and wish I was there?
Is your heart filled with pain?
Shall I come back again?
Tell me, darling, are you lonesome tonight?
Are you lonesome tonight?
Do you miss me I say?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memories cling to that bright summer day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?
VERSE 3
I have counted the days, I've counted the nights
I've counted the months and the years
I have counted on you since we drifted apart
Tell me, darling, are you lonesome tonight?
Are you lonesome tonight?
Do you miss me I say?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memories cling to that bright summer day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?
ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT? Monologue New Monologue Version

SPOKEN:
I wonder if you're lonesome tonight
You know someone said the world's a stage
And each must play a part
Fate had me play a lover, with you as my sweetheart
Act One was where we met,
I loved you at first glance
You read your lines so cleverly
And never missed a cue
Then came Act Two
And you seemed to change
You acted strange
Why I've never known
Then came the day
When you went away and left me all alone
If you lie when you said you loved me
I had no cause to doubt you
But I'd rather go on hearing your lies
Than to go on living without you
The stage is bare and I'm standing there
In the part of a broken clown
And if you won't come back to me
Then they can bring the curtain down

JAYE P. MORGAN ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT ?
Mary Margaret Morgan, known professionally as Jaye P. Morgan, is a retired popular music American singer, actress and game show panelist.
Born: December 3, 1931 (age 82), Mancos, Colorado, United States - Wikipedia
JAYE P. MORGAN - 1959

Are you lonesome tonight?
Do you miss me tonight?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray to a bright sunny day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?
Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare?
Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?
Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?
I wonder if you're lonesome tonight
You know someone said that the world's a stage
And each must play a part.
Fate had me playing in love you as my sweet heart.
Act one was when we met, I loved you at first glance
You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue
Then came act two,
You seemed to change and you acted strange
And why Ill never know.
Honey, you lied when you said you loved me
And I had no cause to doubt you.
But Id rather go on hearing your lies
Than go on living without you.
Now the stage is bare and I'm standing there
With emptiness all around
And if you wont come back to me
Then make them bring the curtain down.
Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?
"You know someone said that the world's a stage
And each must play a part"
"All the world's a stage and all men and women merely players
they have their exits and their entrances.
And one man in his time plays many parts"
